American roulette is the double zero roulette game mostly found in Las Vegas and online casinos. The American roulette wheel varies considerably from its European counterpart, with the addition of a double zero, and also a re-working of the number layout on the roulette wheel.
Although the numbers are the same colours as European roulette, their positions on the wheel have been considerably altered and the neighbour betting will take some getting used to if you haven’t played this game before.
As you can probably work out, the addition of the double zero has increased the house edge as the casino have an extra space but still payout at 36/1 (35 plus your 1 back).
This means lower long term odds for the player, and as such it isn’t worth playing if you have a choice between European and American roulette.
Additionally, placing a 50/50 outside bet with a zero landing will return half of your stake on European roulette in land based casinos, however a similar bet and outcome on American Roulette will result in a total loss of your stake.
All of this combined makes American roulette a poor alternative in long term game play to regular roulette games, however many people do enjoy the addition of the extra zero, with neighbour bets at either end of the wheel adding a good element to the game that you may enjoy.
