Power Stars review

Novomatic may well produce some fantastic games with complex bonus rounds but they love their fruit too. No, I’m not suggesting that they are following the doctor’s orders and stuffing themselves with bananas all the time. Novomatic love releasing games that go back in time to the days when slot machines were full of fruit symbols. This is another of their releases and it’s got a retro feel with a few modern-day features thrown in for good measure.

It’s all in the Stars

As soon as you see this game you know that it’s not going to be one of the more complex Novomatic slots. There’s no fancy introduction to the game and the look of it is as basic as they come. It’s a five-reel game that has three rows of mainly fruity symbols and has a total of ten pay-lines. There’s a red background and above the reels is the game’s title with a few little stars to the right of that. The ten pay-lines aren’t fixed so you must access the menu and then decide how many pay-lines to use and your stake. The minimum amount you can wager with all ten pay-lines in play is 0.10 and the maximum 50. Not a bad range, just choose an amount you can afford to lose if you go through a dry patch.

Before the game starts there’s a serious moment as you need to enter a time for the Reality Check Interval. This is a responsible gambling tool and it’s very welcome in my opinion.  Say you set a time of 15 minutes (the choice is from just one minute to two hours), the game will be suspended when that time elapses and show you how you’re getting on financially. Then you have the option of carrying on or quitting.

The symbols include the usual suspects when it comes to a game that has plenty of reliance on fruit. There’s the cherries, grapes, lemons, plums, melons, and oranges. In addition to the fruit, we also get bells and 7’s. It’s the latter which is the best paying symbol as that can win as five of the 7’s on a pay-line wins you 500x your line bet with five bells half that amount. As is the case with a few Novomatic slots, when you get a winning combination, the symbols responsible for that win burst into flames. Perhaps a Novomatic designer had a bad experience in the kitchen once, who knows? Those winning combinations are more likely in this game as wins are paid not just from the traditional left to right but right to left too.

Frozen Fiesta

The wild symbol in this game is the gold star. This can substitute for other symbols to help get you some big wins. The wild is even more important in this game as it also plays a key role in triggering the bonus game and this proves to be a very talented symbol indeed.

The Gold Star Frozen Wild is something to really keep an eye out for.  If the wild symbol ends up on the second, third or fourth reels then it undergoes a transformation. What happens is that it will now extend itself and cover all the reel that it’s on. The reels are then re-evaluated and any wins that have suddenly been created are paid out. That’s not all though because now you get one free spin and those wilds stay just where they are. The chances of getting a win on that free spin are pretty high.

This game also has a gamble feature. It appears after a winning combination and no one forces you to accept the challenge. If you do go for it, the task is to correctly guess the colour of the next playing card. Will it be red or black? Make the right choice and you double that win you just had. Then you can have up to four more tries to make a correct guess. One wrong choice takes away everything you have won so you need to be careful with this.

Before you start playing this game do as much research as you can about it. That means clicking on the menu button and access the paytable. That’s packed with important information about the game including the winning combinations and how to trigger the bonus game. Have some free games too in order to see how the game plays.

Similar Games to Power Stars

If you enjoy playing ‘Power Stars’ then there are some similar games you should try out. Have a go playing the BetSoft game ‘Fruit Zen’ which also has also has ten pay-lines, offers free spins and an expanding wild. Also try ‘DJ Wild’ from Elk Gaming as that is also a medium to high variance with free spins on offer and sticky wilds that can win you plenty of cash.

In Conclusion

At first look you will think this is a basic game but you’d be wrong. The way the wild helps you get wins makes this an interesting slot to play and it can be lucrative to play. Don’t chuck your wins away on the gamble feature though.
