Hollywood Star review

Hollywood has created many a star since movies began entertaining us. The celebrity world has of course provided slot designers with many a theme for games as of course have the movies produced. Well now it’s time to review Novomatic’s ‘Hollywood Star’ slot game that has a rather strange mixture of themes but remains an entertaining game to play.

This game has five reels, three rows of symbols and just the five paylines. Winning combinations are awarded when the required number of symbols appear from left to right. That doesn’t apply to the scatter symbol though, that can appear anywhere on the reels to count towards a win.

Playing the ‘Hollywood Star’ slot will cost you as little as £0.40, a bit dearer than some games out there but a lot cheaper than going to see a Hollywood star at your local cinema. The maximum cost per spin is £100, finding a level you can afford to play at shouldn’t be a problem.

Don’t expect to see a glut of Hollywood stars in this game, the only one on view is the legendary Marilyn Monroe. All the other symbols in the game see the return of the fruit symbols that have been used in slot games for decades and decades. It’s a bit like Doris Day making a comeback and starring in a modern-day musical. Those fruit symbols include the usual suspects (plenty of Hollywood stars in that movie) of cherries, oranges, lemons, plums, grapes and watermelons.

The Marilyn Monroe is the highest paying symbol here awarding you 5000x your line bet.. There’s no wild symbol so that means no substitution of symbols in this game. That does make getting winning combinations a little bit more difficult and you can expect some periods when you struggle to get wins but just stay patient they will arrive.

There may not be a wild but there is a scatter symbol which is the Hollywood Star itself as seen on that famous pavement with names of legendary figures from the past and present. It doesn’t have a bonus game to trigger so isn’t quite as important as it is in a lot of other slot games that you play.

Make sure you look through the paytable to find out lots more information about this game. Also have some free games to see just how this game runs without having to spend a penny for the privilege.

Bonus Game

Those of you who are used to a diet of free spins and pick ‘em games, sadly there isn’t either of them in this rather basic slot. It’s retro feel doesn’t really accommodate a bonus game but don’t let its absence put you off playing this game. There are still plenty of reasons for playing this game.

The game also has a gamble feature. This gives you the chance to double the win you’ve just had and of course that sounds quite tempting but be careful.. The option comes along when you get a winning combination. Now you don’t have to go for this, just remember that. If it’s a big win you’ve just had it’s really best to just take it and get on with the next spin. If you do take up the challenge then you just need to correctly guess the colour of the next playing card. Get it wrong though and you lose the win you’ve just had.

Another Novomatic game that has a retro feel. It’s always good to see a game that pays homage to the days when fruit symbols dominated slot games. The inclusion of a Hollywood star and Marilyn Monroe gives the game another theme but it’s a strange mixture. The lack of a bonus game (apart from the dreaded gamble feature) is bound to disappoint some but this is still a decent slot game, perhaps ideal for players new to the slot game world.
