HoffMania review

David Hasselhoff is a bit like marmite for a lot of people. The star of such cult shows as ‘Knight Rider’ and ‘Baywatch’ is loved by millions. Whether it’s driving a car that talks to you (long before the days of SatNav) or running in slow motion along a beach with your stomach held in, he’s been a hero to fans for a few decades now. There are plenty of others who just make fun out of him. In Germany he’s known as a singing superstar and in some parts of the UK as Captain Hook in panto. Now he’s a slot machine superstar too in this game from Novomatic, one of two that the company have produced about the Hoff.

There’s five reels and three columns of symbols here but the way you get winning combinations is a little bit different. There are just the five paylines (a fixed amount) but wins are paid out using the Allpay format. That means it pays winning combinations on neighbouring reels in a left to right direction. That means an impressive 243 different ways to get wins in this slot.

When it comes to funding the game, it costs between £0.20 to £100, that’s a decent range so there shouldn’t be any problems at all in finding a stake level you can comfortably play at.

The symbols in the game include of course a smiling David Hasselhoff, a brunette woman smiling (or just laughing at the Hoff), a pen and a Hoff autograph and another woman (a red head this time) giving us the thumbs up, not quite sure why but she is anyway. There’s also the nine to Ace playing card symbols in a variety of colours but some more Hoff related ones would have added to the theme of the game.

The lack of inventiveness continues with the wild symbol in this game. We get a Hoff Mania logo that spins round to say WILD when it subs for another one to form a winning combination. The wild symbol only appears on the second, third and fourth reels. It can’t do that for the scatter symbol which is a golden bust of the Hoff. That also only appears on the second, third and fourth reels. Both must have had an argument with the two outside reels.

Don’t go into playing this game for real without doing some research first. Have some free games and take a good look through the paytable to find out all about the winning combinations, how much they pay and details of the free spins bonus round.

Bonus Games

If you can get three or more of the strange looking Hoff bust scatter symbols, this triggers the free spins round. You’re awarded just five free spins to start with but that number can be increased. When scatter symbols turn up during the bonus round they either award you one or two extra spins or increase the multiplier by 1x up to a maximum of 5x.

The game also has a gamble feature. When you get a win during the base game you are given the opportunity to double it. It’s not compulsory and if you feel like it you can just go onto the next spin of the reels with your account balance boosted. If you do take the gamble it’s the usual task of correctly guessing the colour of the next playing card. Get it right and double your win, get it wrong and that win is lost forever. Not an idea to gamble big wins in this risky game.

A fairly standard Novomatic game. It’s still entertaining and can get you some tidy profits. The theme could have been adhered to better though. Not being able to use images from his TV shows was a problem I guess. Even so it’s an enjoyable game to play and fans of the Hoff will love seeing him smiling at them from their PC or mobile devices. You might not be a fan but could start to love him if you get some big wins playing this game.
