Slot games have undergone massive changes in recent years with more reels, additional symbols, extra bonus games and more. As much as progress is always appreciated, it’s good to see some games that look back at the past but add in a few modern day features just to keep everyone happy. That’s the case here with the Novomatic slot game ‘Burning Hot 7’s.’
The look of the game really is a trip back in time to the days when a trip to the amusement arcade was a big part of my family holidays. I can still hear my mum telling me not to waste all my money on the fruit machines as she headed off to the bingo stall.
You might be checking your glasses when looking at the game because there’s a lot of doubling up with the symbols but the purpose of that will be explained later.
‘Burning Hot 7’s’ has just the three reels and three rows of symbols which is how fruit machines used to be in the old days. This one however has a total of five paylines whereas older games often had just the one. Those five paylines are a fixed amount so your job is simply to decide your stake. Playing the game can cost between £0.08 and £100, ideal if you just want a bit of fun or are on the look for some big wins.
Symbols include cherries, lemons, oranges and plums as the fruity symbols. There’s also 7’s. a star and an x. The symbols live up to the name of the game as several of them appear to be on fire.
We do have a wild in this game and it’s the Double 7. This can act as a substitute for all of the other symbols in the game apart from the Bonus symbol. That’s obviously very handy and it can help get you some winning combinations that you wouldn’t otherwise have had.
The big target in this game is to get nine matching fruit symbols across all three lines. You might think that’s really going to be difficult but the wild symbol can give you a helping hand.
To ensure you know as much about this game as possible, take a good look at the paytable. All the information you need to know about how the game runs is there waiting to be read. Also have some free games just to see everything in action.
This may well have the look of a vintage game but it doesn’t behave like one. If you can get three or more of the bonus symbols anywhere on the reels, then this gets you some free spins. Just how many you’ll receive has to be determined.
That’s done via a pick and win mini game as the three bonus symbols turn into question marks. Simply click on one of them and you’ll win between 14 and 20 free spins of the reels. We actually get to see how many spins we’d have received if choosing either of the other two which can be a rewarding experience or a frustrating one. It’s a bit like Jim Bowen on ‘Bullseye’ and here’s what you could have won if you hadn’t missed the board with your last dart.
During the free spins all of your wins are doubled in line with the Doubled Symbols. There’s also the chance to re-trigger the free spins, all you need is those bonus symbols to appear in triplicate again.
There’s also the tried and tested gamble feature. Yes, it’s time to guess the colour of the next card and try to double the win you’ve just had. It’s not compulsory to take on the gamble so if you want, just take your win and get ready for the next spin. Guessing the colour of the next card is a 50/50 chance but it’s so easy to get it wrong and lose your treasured win.
It’s good to see the old symbols back but with the wild, scatter, dreaded gamble feature and free spins, this is a bit of a hybrid between the old and new games. It’s definitely recommended and there are some good wins to be had here.
