Guns N’ Roses review

Guns N’ Roses played their last concert together on July 17, 1993, at the Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires. At any rate, that was the last time core members Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan shared a stage. In 2016, the trio will reunite to spearhead a mammoth Guns N’ Roses tour. What does all of this have to do with Net Entertainment’s brand-new Guns N’ Roses slot game? Precious little. But hey, it’s good to give a bit of context.

Inspired by the one-time biggest band in the world, Guns N’ Roses is a 5-reel video slot whose symbols will be more than a tad familiar to diehard fans of the Sunset Strip rockers. Needless to say, characters such as Axl Rose and Slash populate the reels, while the audio features Guns N’ Roses classics like Paradise City; you can even choose which song you want to play. Gamers with little interest in the multiplatinum band might be more interested in the number of paylines on offer. I can tell you that this slot features 25 paylines, in addition to several bonus features.

Welcome to the Jungle

Before the game gets started, you’re treated to an extended video intro featuring action shots from one of the band’s live performances (Sweet Child of Mine, naturally); you can even hear the roar of the crowd in the background. When you’re taken through to the main menu, the music segues into Welcome to the Jungle. The menu features a large Guns N’ Roses logo and gaming options along the bottom. It’s all pretty simple and easy to get the hang of.

Guns N’ Gameplay

The graphics and animations featured in Guns N’ Roses are excellent. The character symbols include head shots of Slash, complete with his signature top hat; Axl, clutching a red microphone and singing his lungs out; and Duff, who is clad in a blue headband. There is also a guitar pick embellished with the Use Your Illusion album cover, another guitar pick featuring the G N’ R Lies album cover, the band logo and an LP with the word BONUS across it. There are also a number of playing card symbols.

The gameplay is faultless. The reels are superimposed over the backdrop of a festival stage. Is it Glastonbury, Coachella, Reading? It’s unclear, but huge circular lights illuminate the audience, numerous heads nodding along to the music. When you land a win, the crowd become enlivened, jumping in rhythm with the music, their hands in the air. The winning combination flashes repeatedly, too.

On the whole, Guns N’ Roses is one of the best-looking slot titles in the NetEnt gaming suite. You can choose to play on your desktop, tablet or mobile device: Android, iPhone and iPad are the most popular HTML5 platforms currently running the slot. The slot is also available in a number of land-based NetEnt casinos.

Getting Started

With coins ranging from 0.20 to 100-per-spin, the Guns N’ Roses slot should suit most mid-rollers. The jackpot is 2,000 credits – hardly meagre, but there are certainly bigger prizes out there.

Rocking Out

The Guns N’ Roses logo is the game’s stacked wild; this means it’s liable to fill up entire reels, which can result in some generous pay-out wins. The game also includes a random multiplier, which can boost your base game winnings by up to 10x.

Another feature which is activated at random is the one known as Legend Spins. This function awards you three bonus spins. During the first spin, reel three will become flooded with wild symbols. On the second, reels one and five will be replete with wilds; and on the last spin, reels two and four are wild.

But that’s not all. A third random base game bonus is the Appetite for Destruction wild – a cross-shaped symbol that can show up either fully or partially formed on one of three positions on the reels. These rogue wilds combine with regular wilds to supply lucrative win opportunities.

The regular bonus game is in play, too: simply hit three scatters on reels one, three and five and you’ll be entitled to free spins. How many you get depends on when you stop the spinning wheel.

Appetite for Slots

There’s no denying that Guns N’ Roses is a glossy slot with excellent gameplay. NetEnt are on to a winner with this one, especially as the band’s set to make 2016 a year to remember. Grab a piece of the action and let your hair down.
