Emperor of the Sea review

There’s many a slot game that has an Asian theme to it and here’s another in the shape of ‘Emperor of the Sea.’ It’s set in China and those Asian waters look a little bit rough to me, pack some seasick pills if venturing out there. Thankfully though there’s little chance of you feeling sick as you play this on your PC or mobile devices. It’s fun to play and there are some big wins out there to win. That’s because it has some excellent features in its bonus game, namely Rolling Reels and Growing Wilds.

Life on the Ocean Wave

This is a five-reel game that has an attractive classical feel to it and four rows of symbols. When it comes to deciding how many pay-lines to play with, it’s a little bit different. You can choose to play with either 38, 68 or 88 activated pay-lines.  Strange numbers but it turns out they are actually lucky numbers in China, bet we never see an English cricket slot with 111 pay-lines. The cost of playing the game ranges from 0.38 to 44, just make sure that you choose one that won’t cause you any financial worries. Setting your stake for each spin of the reels won’t cause you any problems at all with the relevant control buttons situated underneath the reels. That includes an autoplay feature that could see you setting as many as 500 automated spins.

In the background, there’s a view of the sea which doesn’t look all that calm.  It’s an attractive look but a bit cartoonish. To be fair it’d have been better if we could see some sailing ships on that sea but that’s not the case. Another slight disappointment is the presence of the nine to Ace playing card symbols which is far too many. We do get an ocean dragon, a junk sailing ship (which isn’t as cheap as its name implies), a pair of koi carp, a tortoise who is sat on a pile of gold coins, some Chinese symbols and this being an aquatic themed game, there’s also a jade treasure chest that is full of money.

None of those symbols are the wild. That honour goes to the Emperor of the Sea logo and this can help boost your account balance. Why? Well it has the ability to substitute for other symbols in the game and produce winning combinations out of nowhere. That is even more likely due to the fact it can appear stacked on all of the five reels, both during the base game and the free spins round. It’s not able to sub for the scatter symbol which is the gold ingot.

Spinning on the Sea

If you can get three or more of the scatter symbols anywhere on the reels, you’ve just triggered the free spins feature. You receive a total of eight free spins but it’s all change now with a new set of reels in play. Not only that it’s Rolling Reels time. This is a fantastic feature that can bring about some big wins.

When a winning combination is achieved, the symbols responsible for that win suddenly get blasted away and they are replaced by new ones. The reels are re-evaluated and any wins paid out. Then the whole process gets repeated again. Not just that but this game includes Growing Wilds. The stack of wilds increase by one with each win created by those Rolling Reels. They can be 15 high so the chances of getting some wins just keep on increasing.

Make sure that you access the paytable and have some free games before playing this for real. It’s important to check out all the special features in this game and not have any surprises when playing with your own cash. Learn about the Rolling Reels and then get ready for those big wins that will be heading your way.

Slots Just like This

Stacked wilds are always a good feature in any slot game.  Try out ‘Dice Party’ from EGaming which includes stacked wilds and also a free spins round. For another slot, which sees the possibility of more wild symbols being added in the bonus game, spend some time playing ‘Mighty 40’ from Bally.

Final Voyage

Another interesting slot from Microgaming. It has a good look to it and the real highlight here is the bonus game. Not that many free spins but the increasingly stacked wilds and Rolling Reels can certainly create plenty of wins and it’s the bonus game that really brings this game alive. Microgaming slots rarely fail to impress and even though this is by no means one of the best around, it has its moments so give it a go.
