Extra Bet Roulette review

Another in a range of progressive pot roulette games finding their way onto many fixed odds betting terminals; Extra Bet Roulette can be found in Bet Fred and William Hill betting shops.

Initially these were released with a starting pot of £50, but many betting shops have since increased this to £100. This would give the impression they were not getting the amount of play initially anticipated, although the competition for play on the betting terminals is pretty high due to the amount of games on each machine, so it shouldn’t have come as too much of a surprise that some form of enticement was needed to get these off the ground.

The roulette wheel is the standard European single zero to thirty-six game, with the traditional layout, and the bonus theme is the same as Key Bet Roulette. The bonus position has been placed between red five, and black ten, placing it directly opposite to the green zero. The pot progresses by a small cash amount which varies depending on the initial stake, and increases constantly until it has been won.

The maximum value of the pot can reach no more than £350, with any remainder beyond this point paid to a hidden reserve pot. This appears to be the current standard by which all the progressive roulette’s have assumed, with the reserve pot eventually replacing the current pot.

There is no gamble on this game, so once the initial bet has been completed, it is straight on to the next spin. To encourage play, Extra Bet Roulette features a list of hot and cold numbers as well as the number of spins since zero and the number of spins since the bonus. As the FOBT roulette’s are apparently random, this type of information is insignificant. But it is interesting to see the occasional 180 plus spins without a bonus, or a zero. Over 100 is fairly common, although I seen 516 spins since the last bonus before, so use caution if playing by past outcomes (never a good idea by the way).

The minimum bet on the bonus position is £1, up to around £7, with a maximum potential win of the standard £500. You can bet just on the bonus and nothing else, with each spin giving a 38/1 chance of hitting (on certain terminals and certain times of day). This type of play is incredibly boring, but isn’t too bad a strategy if the pot is high enough. It is also worth pointing out that you can only win a single pot per spin, so having £2 or more on the bonus position will not pay you any more than a £1 bet would do for landing on the bonus, then the pot. This makes bets of more than £1 on the bonus position rather pointless if all you are playing for is the pot.

Extra Bet Roulette Bonus Feature

The bonus position is made up of twelve segments overlaid onto a wheel, which then spins prior to the start of each bet. The bonus wheel is broken down into eleven cash values and one cash pot value. The values are in order from:

Pot, 25, 30, 40, 20, 50, 30, 35, 20, 70, 25, 40.

As you can see, there is a £70 value, but this is counteracted by two low values of £20 and £25 each.

The one Pot value amongst the eleven other cash amounts gives the odds of 12/1 of hitting the pot. This would then be multiplied by the odds of landing on the bonus position in the first place; 38/1. This gives combined odds of winning the pot as 456/1.

Theoretical odds would mean that for every 456 spins, you should win the cash pot once. This does not mean the pot would have to be above £456 to make a profit (it only goes to £350).

The odds of landing on the bonus position are 38/1, so for every thirty-eight spins you will be winning one of the bonus amounts. If you deduct all of these from the 456/1 odds, you are left with 71. Meaning, theoretically that the cash pot need be no more than £72 to make a profit.

Short-term odds however are very temperamental, and 180 spins without a bonus, then a bonus win of just £20 may occur more than once. It is with this in mind that you should not really pursue the cash pot on any amount less than £150 at least, with the optimum playing method being to bet a single chip on the bonus position only. So although incredibly boring, if you stick to this method and do not deviate from it ever, in the long term you will see a profit, providing everything is random and fair.

Various types of bonus roulette are available to play online at Sky Vegas.
