The Star Trek movie franchise has been revitalized in recent years with the new movies looking at the early careers of our favourite characters. With new movies come brand new slot games hence the arrival of ‘Star Trek – Against All Odds.’ I’m not sure why it’s called that because the second of the new Star Trek wasn’t called that. Perhaps it’s a mystery Spock and company can try and solve.
Previous Star Trek slot games, whether based on movies or the hugely successful number of TV series have all proved very popular. There’s no reason why this won’t be either. There are some interesting and profitable bonus features and although there are no free spins, there is a great interactive game.
This is a five-reel game and is one of those IGT releases that uses a different format for them. The first reel has just the three rows of symbols, this moves up to four for the second and the centre third reel has five. Then it’s back to four for the fourth reel and three for the fifth and final row.
Symbols in the game include Kirk, Spock and McCoy. There’s also a phaser, tricorder and the Federation Logo. There’s a Wild transporter symbol and this can get you lots more wins thanks to its ability to substitute for other symbols. It can’t do that though for the scatter symbol which is the red planet and the Romulan ship that plays a key role in activating the main bonus feature.
Rather than there being the usual set amount of paylines, this is one of the IGT games that employs the Multiway Xtra format. With this winning combinations are paid from left to right and right to left as well. Matching symbols simply need to be on adjacent reels for a win to be achieved. Playing the game costs between £0.60 and £600.
Just to ensure you know exactly what’s going on, have a look through the paytable and the game rules. After that have some free games and then you’ll be fully prepared to risk real cash on this outer space battle.
Battling to trigger the bonus round can be a bit frustrating but here we have a feature that can come along at any time. The Energizing Wilds can certainly help boost your account balance. Here’s what happens, a target will suddenly appear on the reels at the end of a spin. This focuses on the centre three reels and will do you a real favour. That’s because it will turn between two and five symbols wild. Once that has been done the reels are re-evaluated and any wins created by the arrival of the wilds will be paid out and sometimes that can be a decent amount.
The best wins can be achieved in the Enterprise Defender Bonus and those of you who like to interact with the game will be delighted here. In order to get into the bonus round you need to get five of the Romulan ship symbols on the reels. Now the Romulans aren’t the most pleasant species though they do look a lot prettier than the Ferengi. For the next 45 seconds though you have a real battle on your hands as you have to defend yourself against Romulan missiles using your mouse cursor (rather than 23rd century advanced technology).
Targets are worth either 100 or 500 points and just how many you earn will decide on what rank you’ll be given. Anything up to 11,999 makes you a Lieutenant with a multiplier of up to 6500x. A score of 12,000 to 13,999 sees you become a Commander with the multiplier up to 15000x. Score more than 14,000 and you’ve become a Captain with a multiplier going up to 225000x. Then it’s time to spin the wheel and find out just what you’ve won.
Here’s another excellent Star Trek slot with plenty to keep you busy. Those of who you love free spins might be a bit disappointed by their absence here. However, the two bonus features contained can get you some good profits and the interactive side as you get to down some Romulan ships is great fun.
