It’s not going to be a mystery why you’ll have a great time playing this slot from IGT based on Sherlock Holmes. It’s full title is ‘Sherlock Holmes – The Hunt For Blackwood’ and anyone who has seen Guy Ritchie’s 2009 movie will enjoy this. Those who like winning big prizes on slot games will have a good time too.
This is a five-reel game that has four rows of symbols. The reels are quite large and that means there’s nothing to see in the background. A few images of Victorian London (for fans of modern TV series, that’s where the story is truly set) would have been pleasant. In all there are thirty paylines and that’s a fixed amount so no worrying about how many to activate for each spin of the reels. Playing the game costs between £0.60 and £180, ideal for those just wanting for some fun and those out to really boost their bank balance.
The symbols include images of the main characters from the movie. That of course includes Robert Downey Jr as Sherlock Holmes. There’s also Dr Watson, Irene Adler and Inspector Lestrade. Also there’s a dog, a violin, a stopwatch, a magnifying glass and a pipe. Look out for the Sherlock Holmes logo symbol as five of those will win you 500x your line bet.
If you’re looking for a wild symbol well here’s a bit of bad news. In the base game there isn’t one but the bonus games make up for its absence. We do get a bonus icon which is the cog logo.
As you’ll read there are a fair few bonus game here so make sure you know as much about them as possible. That’s easily achievable by just looking through the paytable and game rules. Sherlock would agree that a bit of research will always solve a puzzle in the long run. A few free games will also give you experience of how the game runs.
Anytime while you’re playing the base game the Teamwork Feature might pop up. Any Holmes or Watson symbols can now combine to form one which is worth three times more than as the individual ones. Also there’s the Mystery Multiplier (Holmes can probably solve it you know) when a win can be awarded a multiplier of up to 10x the win you’ve just had.
The main feature is the Picker Puzzle and this is triggered if you can get three of the cog bonus symbols on the first, third and fifth reels. Time now to play a Pick ‘em game and this takes place in Sherlock’s room in Baker Street. There are five objects for you to pick with the chance to win some cash prizes or three or four matching items that get you into some other games.
There’s the Blackwood Wheel Bonus which is one of those Wheel of Fortune affairs. Each time you spin the wheel you win the value of where the pointer ends up. Get the Blackwood character and that pointer is out of the game. If you end up on the Holmes character though that gets back any pointers, you may have lost. You keep on playing the game until there are no pointers left.
Three or four matching symbols in the Hunt Bonus Round can get you ten or 15 free spins depending on how many you get. A different set of symbols are used in the free spins round. There are five locations on the reels during the free spins round, if either Holmes or Watson end up on one of them then they’ll become locked wilds for the rest of the free spins. Get all five and the wins you get during the free spins are doubled. The Holmes and Watson symbols are wild in the Hunt Bonus Game.
Here’s a game that has a heck of a lot going on. The bonus games definitely give you plenty of chances to get some good wins. The soundtrack is suitably dramatic and it’s no mystery why you’ll want to keep playing this game.
