Masques of San Marco review

It would be a boring world if every slot game had the same design. That’s definitely not something that applies to ‘Masques of San Marco’ as this slot from IGT has a very different look to it.

The game is based in Venice where the Mask festival is held. It’s one of IGT’s Dual Play games, a bit like the Diamond Da Vinci game we’ve also reviewed. On the left hand side of the screen is the game logo and that’s at the top of a romantic scene from Venice where a couple are in a gondolier.

All the real action takes place on the right hand side where the reels can be found. Now it all starts to get a bit different. There are two sets each with five reels, three rows of symbols and 20 paylines. Playing the game costs between £0.40 and £500, the paylines are fixed so no need to worry about how many to activate.
The symbols are all based around the mask festival. Therefore, we get four masked characters that really look impressive. There’s also the moon, the sun and a star.

The wild symbol here simply has that word written inside a gold frame. It can substitute for other symbols to get you some handy wins. It can’t do that for the bonus symbol as that would make It far easier to get into the free spins round.

Freefall symbols are a great feature in any game and they really add to the enjoyment and profitability of playing ‘Masques of San Marco.’ When you get a winning combination that’s just the start of the celebration. The symbols that have just got you that win suddenly disappear and that leaves a big hole. They are filled by the symbols from above who fall down into their place.

That means the reels now have a different look to them and they are reassessed to see if you have any new wins. If there are new winning combinations, then the process takes place again and this can bring a succession of wins without having to put any more money into the machine.

Just to ensure that you know exactly how this all works, take a good look through the paytable and the game rules. A few free plays will also help you see the game in operation before you start putting your real cash in.

This is a great game to play so if you’re having a really long session, take advantage of the autospin feature. You can set between ten and fifty automated spins to give you a bit of break from looking at the screen all the time.

Bonus Game

If at the end of a spin there are three of the bonus symbols on the first, second and third reels in either half of the two sets then into the free spins bonus game you go. There’s six to play with initially but the reels used now have an additional 20 paylines. That’s achieved by taking away the dividing line between the two sets of reels. Again the freefall symbols are in play and it’s possible to get a lot more than six free spins from this.

Conclusion

Games that have the freefall symbols are really great fun to play. They can create win after win without you having to fund the game at all. The free spins round can be profitable too so this is a game that’s definitely recommended.
