Chicago the Musical review

Get your dancing shoes on because the slot version of ‘Chicago the Musical’ is going to get those feet of yours tapping. Hopefully thanks to the stacked wilds and Broadway Bonus, you will soon find yourself dancing a hot honey rag when the big wins come along.

‘Chicago’ has been a massive hit around the world since it was first performed in 1975. With its sensational Bob Fosse choreography, it was turned into a movie in 2002 and became an Oscar winner. Now we have the slot version of this musical and if you are looking for a singing celebrity criminal I know a girl who fits that bill.

Of course, every musical is packed with great songs and who knows, a few of them might just appear in this review.  This has five reels and does include some songs from the shows. Not ‘When Velma take the stand,’ ‘My own best friend’ or ‘We Both reached for the Gun’ but you can click your fingers to ‘All that Jazz’ while winning some cash. Other songs come along with winning combinations and occasionally you’ll hear the line ‘He had it coming’ from ‘Cell Block Tango.’

There are a total of 40 pay-lines in this slot but you don’t have to be playing all of them. The minimum cost of playing all of them is 0.40 and the maximum 40. Nowadays, responsible gambling is important and not being ‘funny honey’ (song title by the way), don’t gamble anything you can’t afford to lose

A Cast of Stars

The symbols in the game include the three main characters, Roxie Hart, Billy Flynn, and Velma Kelly. No sign of Roxie’s husband but he’s Mr Cellophane so you don’t expect to see him.  We also get the lower paying symbols, which instead of being fruit or playing card symbols are the letters ‘C’, ‘H’, ‘I’, ‘A; ‘G’ and ‘O’. The designers must hate the fact there are two C’s in Chicago. The symbols look great though and add razzle dazzle and a bit of class to this game.

The wild symbol is the word ‘WILD’ which is all glittery and in the spotlight. It can substitute (understudy?)  for other symbols to help get you winning combinations and that will keep it hot.  It can’t substitute for the scatter which is Mama. There is also a Jackpot Wild and a Broadway Bonus symbol which play key roles in this game.

Five of the wild symbols on an activated pay-line wins you 1000x your line bet. With a win like that you can travel to the States and enjoy Chicago after Midnight. Other notable wins are 100x for five of the Roxie symbols, 80x for Velma and 60x for Billy. If a big win does come along, treat your mother because when you’re good to Mama, it’s always appreciated. Those big wins are likely because the main symbols in this game are all stacked.

When you trigger the free spins round you’ll be so happy you might even do a little tap dance. You need to get nine Mama symbols on the second, third and fourth reels. There are four boxes to choose from which decide whether you get one, two, three or four free spins. That doesn’t sound much because you might be thinking that triggering loads of free spins is ‘All I think about’ but every time Mama turns up, she adds another free spin to the total and there’s no limit on how many you can receive.  Also look out for the pink feathers which unwrap to show a randomly stacked symbol giving you more chances of getting wins.

There’s also the Broadway Bonus which is triggered when three crystal high heels fall onto the second, third and fourth reels. This bonus round has ten tiers and each has a total of nine posters from which to choose to. Choose Velma or Roxie and you go up a rung and a poster with both of them takes you to the next tier. Find the ‘collect’ poster and that ends the bonus round.

Just like the musical this is action-packed so make sure you look through the paytable to see what the game is all about because ‘I can’t do it alone’.  So, I get plenty of help here with details about the bonus games and how much winning combinations pay out. Also have some free games to see just how everything operates.

Similar Slot Games

If you love playing this game then try out some other similar ones. There’s another High 5 Gaming slot ‘Empress Josephine’ which also has 40 pay-lines, an almost identical RTP (not RSVP) and a free spins round. Alternatively, try out ‘Winnings of Oz’ from Gamesys which also offers sticky wilds in the free spins round and has two bonus features to try and trigger.

Last Chorus

A great adaptation of the musical and a real show-stopper. It’s got lots of bonus features and chances to get wins which is ‘All I care about’ The bonus features can be lucrative so this is definitely a game to play even if you aren’t a fan of the show and ‘Me and my baby’ love this slot.
