I’m old enough to remember the days when the first thing I did in the 1980s when I got into the pub was to check if anyone was on the Space Invaders machine. The game may look extremely dated now but back then it kept us enthralled for many a year. Sadly I wasn’t that great at it and my friend was an absolute master so I spent most my time watching him play the game. Now Fremantle have turned this beloved arcade game into a slots game and those aliens are back on the radar again. ‘Space Invaders’ is a five reel and bumper 40 payline video slots game. Winning combinations have to be consecutive apart from the scatter symbol. You’ll find all the information about how to win at this game in the paytable.
The minimum stake is £0.25 and the maximum £200, only gamble that amount if you can safely afford to lose it. The screen really does look like the arcade game that most of my student grant was spent on. The actual spinning of the reels is a bit different here. The symbols just disappear (like my student grant) and then the new set of symbols appear. The soundtrack is similar to the arcade game. Symbols in this game include the Mystery Ship symbol, the wild invader, a bunker and the Space Invaders logo. There’s also the Jack-Ace poker symbols but given a slight spacy look. That wild Invader symbol can substitute for any of the symbols aside from the Scatter and Bonus Game symbols. Despite that it can produce some decent wins for you. If you get more than one of the Space Invaders Logo symbol on the screen at the end of a spin that gets you an instant cash prize. Playing this game is no problem at all and there’s also an auto spin feature available so you can take a bit of time away from the screen and keep on playing and this goes up to a maximum 100 spins. This is available to play on your PC and on mobile devices.
To get some free spins you need to get the Mystery Ship symbol anywhere on the reels. This takes you to a second screen and your mission is to shoot down the ship. Once you’ve done that the number of free spins you have will be revealed and the multiplier that will be applied to it. Simply use your mouse to shoot down the ship with your canon, I could have done with that in the 1980s. Once you do get your free spins they can’t be retriggered and during the free spins the Mystery Ship and Bonus Cannon symbols aren’t present so you can’t get into another bonus game. Keep an eye out for he Bonus Cannon symbol because that’s the key to the door to get you into the main bonus game. The symbol can appear at random and you need to collect five of them to move onto the bonus game. You’ll always know how many you have because full details are given in the top right of the screen. Again you need to be wiping out those alien invaders as they head for our planet. You can use your mouse to direct the canno and when you manage to hit one you’ll either get a win or an Alert which takes away one of the five lives you start the bonus game with. Once all the Alerts have been revealed the bonus game is over and it’s time to collect your winnings.
Boy does this game bring back memories. It’s great to see the Space Invaders back and this is a really enjoyable slots game. The bonus rounds are a good way to make some tidy profits and you’ll definitely enjoy playing this game.
