When I was a child, our local television station used to show all the classic Hammer Films on a Friday night after News at Ten. My mum used to let me stay up to watch them and to this day I still adore them. No wonder therefore that I’m a big fan of Barcrest’s ‘The Curse of Frankenstein’ slots game. This is based on the classic 1957 movie that resurrected the Frankenstein movies after the success of the Universal classics in the 1930s and it’s a really entertaining game to play.
We get to see some great images from the film including the monster trying his best to strangle Frankenstein. It’s tinged with a bit of sadness now as both Peter Cushing (Frankenstein) and Sir Christopher Lee (the Monster) are now no longer with us. The images in this game are perfect for the theme as is the eery music with the sound of screaming women eager to get away from the villains. ‘The Curse of Frankenstein’ is a five-reel, ten-payline game that can be played on your PC without the need of any download. It can also be played on your mobile devices. The minimum stake (isn’t that the Dracula movies?) is £0.05 per line and the maximum is £50. That means you high rollers out there can bet £500 on a single spin if you’re that brave. Just ensure that the bet you do place is one you are comfortable with and won’t ruin the enjoyment of playing this great slots game.
The symbols in this game fit in perfectly with its theme. There’s Frankenstein, the Monster (remember Frankenstein is the mad scientist), the Hammer films logo, a damsel in distress (Frankenstein’s unsuspecting girlfriend) plus the Queen, King and Ace symbols that appear to be being held together by stitching.
Playing ‘The Curse of Frankenstein’ is straightforward enough with all the control buttons placed at the bottom of the screen. The control panel looks just like one of Frankenstein’s pieces of laboratory equipment and fits in brilliantly with the theme of the game. You simply select your stake and how many lines you want to play. As you adjust the levels a church bell rings adding to the spooky atmosphere. You can see how much you’re staking on each spin and how much you’ve won. There’s also an Autoplay button that can set up to 25 games. To the left of the Autoplay button is the Paytable. Just click on this and it will bring up all the information you need to know about the game. It’s good to have a thorough read of this and have a few free games before risking your account balance.
This isn’t the most complicated of games, there are some Barcrest games out there that can get a bit confusing at times. The bonus feature in ‘The Curse of Frankenstein’ is a free spins festival. To trigger the free spins you need to keep an eye out for the Hammer Films logo. A minimum of three of these logos gets you the free spins. Initially you’ll receive a bonus depending on just how many of those Hammer Films logos appeared on the reels. Three earns you 2x your stake, four give you 25x and five produce a whopping 100x. You receive ten free spins and the multiiplier on wins is 2x. Where you can really start go get some big wins is if you can manage to get three scatter symbols again. If you can then there’s more free spins awarded up to a total of 255. With that many you could do more damage than the Monster in a laboratory. The Wild symbol can also produce some healthy wins and can replace the other symbols in the game with the exception of the Hammer Films Logo.
I adore the theme of this game and it’s absolutely played to the hilt. You can certainly get some good wins in the free spins bonus and this is definitely one of the most entertaining Barcrest games.
