Ming Warrior review

No sign of any vases here and if there were, they’d probably get broken in this action-packed slot game from Ainsworth. We’re back in the Far East in days gone by, a rather popular setting for many a slot game. If you’re on the look out for some free spins where wild symbols can pay multipliers of up to 8x, then this is just what you are looking for.

Into Battle

Way back in time if you found yourself up against a Ming Warrior you probably didn’t have that much time to live. That’s mainly down to the weaponry they had that made them such a powerful force. This is a five-reel slot that has a total of 20 pay-lines for you to try and get some wins on. There are three rows of large symbols and the reels are transparent which means we see the background in all its glory. That means we get to see some well-designed images of horses and a massive Ming Warrior with a giant blade that makes him a cut over anybody else.

Those 20 pay-lines aren’t a fixed amount so you have to spend some time working out how many to activate. Another task that you have is to decide just how much you are going to spend on each spin of the reels.  To set your stake you need to press the button to the left of the one that decides whether you play with sound or not, which is underneath the reels on the left-hand side. That brings up a screen which allows you to set your line bet and how many lines to play. The minimum cost of playing with all the pay-lines activated is 0.20 and the maximum you can spend is 100. Just work out a budget you feel comfortable with and enjoy playing this game.

The Ultimate Warriors

The game features some exciting symbols that are great to look at. There’s a horse that has some great animation attached to it when part of a winning combination. Then there’s a flag, some knives and a bizarre looking weapon that scares the heck out of me. We also get the nine to Ace playing card symbols that at least have a bit of a Far Eastern look to them but why so many?.

The Wild symbol in this game is the Ming Warrior himself. Come on face it, are you going to tell him he’s not, no course not, well done Mr Warrior you’re the wild. This symbol can help get you some winning combinations by replacing others. It can’t do that for the scatter though which is the Chinese coin which helps get you into the bonus game. He must be a busy guy though because during the base game the wild only appears on the second, third and fourth reels.

This isn’t a difficult game to operate and the spin button is situated to the far right underneath the reels. It’s important to take a look through the paytable before starting to play this game for real. If you press that button at the far left underneath the reels, that brings up a box which is you press the ‘I’ button takes you to the rules for the game plus information on the winning combinations that are available. You can win 200,000 at top stake if five of the scatters appear anywhere on the reels.

A Wild Bonus

If you can get three of the coin scatter symbols anywhere on the reels, that activates the free spins round. There are two features available and the wild symbol plays a big role in both of them. In the first feature round, any wins created by the wild are doubled. The second feature sees any wins created by the wild getting an 8x multiplier.

In both features, the wild appears on the second to the fifth reels. If two or more of the scatter symbols appear on the reels, you receive five more free spins. During the feature, there’s a slightly different paytable with some of the wins not quite as large as in the base game. For example, in the base game you get paid out for two flag symbols but you need three in the free spins round.

Similar Slots

If after playing this game you fancy playing something a little bit similar, why not try the Inspired release ‘Rise of Anubis’ which also features 20 pay-lines, offers players the chance to trigger a free spins round but also offers some expanded wild symbols. There’s also the Microgaming release ‘Kings and Queens’ which also offers multipliers of 1x to 8x in the free spins round.

A Cut Above the Rest?

This game has a great look to it and certainly provides the player with plenty of winning opportunities. The theme is a good one and nearly well adhered to, I’d have preferred at least one less playing card symbol. The free spins round can certainly be lucrative, especially if you get the chance to get those 8x wild multipliers. Definitely worth a play.
